I still remember when I got the phone call from the Great Uncle Savva asking me to join the new Komi under 18’s youth team, even though I was only 13. After spending a year out on field, a new season approached and we didn’t have a keeper. Two seasons later I was proudly debuting for the senior team against St. John’s on a Thursday night at Northumberland Park. The 7-4 win eased the pain of a bruised jaw, my welcome to the senior league! 22 years later I am still playing for Komi, with players who were born after my debut!

I’m proud to captain Komi and honoured to captain this current team that I can only see going from strength to strength. We have a great manager in Nick who tries to get us playing football the right way and always makes our training sessions enjoyable. This season we narrowly missed out on promotion and lost in our first cup final in 22 years after extra time. This has made us even more hungry for success and we are so looking forward to next season.

There is no other team that has the spirit and togetherness in the squad than we do. This was evident in the cup final against Apoel and it was amazing to see the large crowd in attendance on that night who came to support us from all Komi generations. This support was greatly appreciated by all the players. I really hope Uncle Savva is looking down on us pleased with how Komi have progressed in the last few years.

I want to say a big thank you to Gigs, Dino, Nick and the generous sponsors of our event tonight, for making this all happen, we are all truly grateful. This event is not only to help ensure Komi continues, it’s about bringing everyone here together to have an amazing night.

Someone once said there are only two names that matter – Komi Kebir and Uncle Savva. And everyone here tonight is down to Uncle Savva and the true friendships and family bonds he made when he created this Club.

Hope you all enjoy your night and hope to see you supporting us at our games this season!
